What is a short haul move?
This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.

What is a local move?
This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.

What is an intrastate move?
This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.

What is an international move?
This is a move where your items must cross an international boundary, regardless of actual distance.

What is freight service?
Freight service is cheaper than a full-service move because movers transport your items to your destination and leave them at the doorstep of your new home. All your items must be boxed in advance, and movers won’t wrap individual pieces of furniture.

Why is my city not listed on the ?to city? drop down?

Can my children watch the move?
For safety reasons, we recommend that your children stay with friends or family on your moving day. If they have to be present, make sure they are carefully supervised at all times.

Can my moving company store my items temporarily?
Some moving companies will temporarily store your items in a safe storage facility. However, you have to pay for any warehouse valuation coverage, final delivery charges from the warehouse and any storage charges.

Does a moving company need to be licensed?
Moving companies are actually registered. This means the federal government has issued them a certificate of authority that allows them to move household goods in any of the 50 states. Local moving companies may also be registered with the US Department of Transportation to move interstate shipments within certain geographical areas.

What is double-drive time?
In California, all movers are required to charge double-drive time. They don’t charge you for the time required to get to your destination and then back to their moving branch. Instead, they charge double the time for the actual move.

What is third party service?
This is a service contracted out to people other than the movers. It may include waterbed service, household cleaning or appliance servicing.

Will I have to pay for anything besides labor costs for my move?
Yes, you may have to pay for required packing supplies and for special care required to pack delicate or oversized items such as televisions or pianos. Make sure to discuss these fees with your moving company before your move.
